Air Chief Marshal S.P. Tyagi, PVSM, AVSM, VM, ADC(Retd.)
Air Chief Marshal Shashindra Pal Tyagi joined the Air Force in end 1963 and has the flown several types of fighter and transport aircraft and has logged over 3000 flying hours. His combat experience includes Combat Air Patrols, as well as Strike and interdiction missions during the 1965 Indo-Pak War. In the 1971 War, he flew MiG-21 aircraft on Air Defense missions. He has held a number of important field appointments, which include Commanding Officer of a Jaguar Squadron and the Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station Jamnagar. As the Defense Attaché in Saudi Arabia, he had a first-hand view of Operation Desert Storm. He has also held many important staff appointments including Director Air Defense, Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Intelligence), Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Operations) at Air Headquarters and Senior Air Staff Officer, HQ Central Air Command. He has been the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of three Operational Commands - the Central, South-Western and the Western Air Command. Air Chief Marshal Tyagi took over as   the IAF Chief in January 2005 and as the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee on31 Oct 2006.Air Chief Marshal Tyagi retired from IAF in2007.He has been a member of the National Security Advisory Board since November 2007 and is an Independent Director on the   board of Directors of Zuari Industries. He is an Adviser to Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited.  He is also a member of 'Global Zero', a Washington based NGO working towards elimination of nuclear weapons. He is actively engaged in Track 2 diplomacy as a member of the Aspen India Group and the Ottawa Dialogue.
